Botanic gardens meet up

Palm leaf zoom by Esther Moliné
Palm leaf zoom a photo by Esther Moliné on Flickr.
Hi everybody! Here's a shot I took at the Botanic Gardens in Dublin last July, applying the zoom trick while taking a longish exposure shot of a palm tree leaf in one of the glasshouses. If you'd like to come to a meet up there this Saturday the 2nd of April I will be there with some flickr photographers from 11 to 11.30 at the area near the Visitor Centre, between the Alpine House (to the left of the centre) and the Palm House, around where the sundial is. If the time doesn't suit and you'd like to come later write a comment here and I'll email you my mobile number so you can find us, we should be there for a long time! Even if you're not interested in photography I thought it would be a nice opportunity to meet, and people might be inspired by the surroundings to sketch, write, etc. We could afterwards post the results here! Hope to see you there!
Esther

Water ink

"Today, it is estimated that 3.6 million people, including 1.5 million children under the age of 5, die every year of diseases borne by unhealthy water, making it the world’s leading cause of death.
To mark World Water Day, on March 22nd Solidarités International and its agency BDDP Unlimited will roll out a campaign to build awareness of the scourge of undrinkable water."

Storytelling and Live Illustration at Talbot Gallery

Hello all, this is my first post on this blog.

Kevin Bohan, Killian Dunne and myself will be illustrating live while the storytellers of Story O tell their amazing stories. This is something we haven't done before, so it promises to be fun. More info at Events On The Corner.

Draw with Don

If, like me, you spent half your childhood glued to Network 2 (or RTE 2 as it's now referred to), you will not want to miss Thursday night in the Bernard Shaw. Don. Bleeding. Conroy. Fran, Michelle, Liam and myself will be there. Let's make a Tinderbox night of it.

Botanic Gardens get together?

Botanic Gardens by Esther Moliné
Botanic Gardens a photo by Esther Moliné on Flickr.

Hi everybody. I'm trying to get together a group of people from the sites I'm involved with (flickr, photography ireland, redbubble, tinderbox) for a visit to the Botanic Gardens in Dublin on Saturday the 2nd of April, at 11. I took this photograph there last year, a bit later in the season, May. Would you be interested in coming along? It would be a nice chance to see each other. Also, people who aren't into photography could produce a sketch, a painting, a poem, or whatever they're inspired to do while there. We could post the results here. What do you think?

3 Blank Canvas competition

Three.ie are running a competition for Irish illustrators, designers & artists to submit pieces based on themes of Freedom, Flexibility & Speed. The winner gets €2000 and an iPhone4 and there's also 3 runners up prizes of €500, plus all the winning entries may be used in future advertising campaigns or wallpapers. Bren B is one of the judges, which should set the standard pretty high.
Closing date is the 28th March and you can find out more about the brief & how to submit entries here.

The Lost Thing

I hadn't watched any of the Oscar coverage but just noticed that "The Lost Thing" won best animated short based on the book by Shaun Tan. Passion Pictures did a remarkable job of translating Tan's layered, textural artwork & fantastical creatures to the screen. You can watch the whole thing here.

Calvin Nicholls Paper Sculptures

Calvin Nicholls does ridiculously detailed paper sculptures. I can't even imagine where to begin doing one of these, it makes my brain explode!
